Are You Facing Amputation Surgery?

Pre & Post Surgery Support

Losing a limb no matter the circumstance can be a very traumatic experience. Here at Iberia / Acadiana Rehabilitation Hospital, our team of experienced specialists and renowned treatment programs can ease the transition and provide support during every aspect of adjusting to a new way of living. We address our patients’ needs from pre prosthetic care to amputation physical therapy and occupational therapy prosthetic training.

Pre-Prosthetic Training (Inpatient or Outpatient)

Why go through training and therapy before amputation surgery?

Pre-prosthetic Training is when we start therapy before the prosthetic limb is fitted. The BEST results occur when we do this. This usually includes the period leading up to amputation. Pre-prosthetic physical therapy focuses on preventing complications post-surgery and strengthening and preparing the patient for a prosthesis while the limb is healing.

Physical and Occupational Therapy Prosthetic Training (Inpatient or Outpatient)

What happens once surgery is complete?

Our treatment team works together with patients and their families to maximize recovery whether you arrive with an upper or lower extremity or multi-limb amputation. Each team member has specialized training and knowledge in amputation rehabilitation and prosthetics.

Once fitted for a prosthesis, treatment focuses on training for its use with specialized physical therapy. The goal is to regain optimal mobility, increase endurance, and maximize comfort and function. Addressing pain and relearning daily living skills through our occupational therapy is part of our goal to maximize healing and quality of life.
